 I was told at my very first visit that SAR is a lifestyle, not a hobby and now you will understand what I mean.

 REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/DOCUMENTS:

 FINGERPRINTING:

You will have to locate the agency which will take your fingerprints for proper background check. It is usually our local PD or Lee County Sheriff's Department (the one on Six Mile Cypress).

Once you have your fingerprints, you need to go to: https://forms.fbi.gov/identity-history-summary-checks-review to send in the fingerprints with the application (indicate that the background check is for SAR and it will get expedited). Cost is $18.00 and you will need to print a CC Authorization Form to send payment.

 *this process should be started four weeks after your first visit as there can be errors along the way

 
DISASTER MANAGEMENT COURSES (FREE ONLINE COURSES/TESTS):

Go to http://training.fema.gov/nims/
You will need to make an account and complete:

  1. ICS-100

  2. ICS-200

  3. ICS-700

  4. ICS-800

  5. IS-5.A An Introduction to Hazardous Materials (can also be found on NASAR website which you will end up making an account for in the future)

ADDITIONAL COURSEWORK (THESE WILL ALSO BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE SAR TECH II) listed in your Position Task Book “PTB” accessible when you enroll with NASAR: GREEN indicates there are options for in person trainings

  1. Bloodborne pathogens

  2. Human First Aid/CPR (team may announce available classes; also in person location in Naples, FL @ Collier CPR & Safety Training 2272 Airport Rd S, Ste. 102 Naples, FL 34112 239-537-0495

  3. K9 First Aid & CPR (Pet Emergency Education, can be instructed by a certified instructor on the team; good for two years)

  4.   5. DOI OAM A100 Basic Aviation Safety or equivalent certificate (recommendation: https://base-medical.thinkific.com/courses/helicopter-operations-for-sar-responders-1)

NASAR SAR TECH II CERTIFICATION (VIRTUAL CLASSROOM WORK):

  1. SAR TECH II (ONLINE CLASS OFFERED BY TEAM) $110.00 + materials (ask team members to borrow navigation equipment, book, etc.)

  2. Crime Scene Preservation (is part of the bundle you will purchase for SAR TECH II)

  3. GPS Basic Endorsement (is part of the bundle you will purchase for SAR TECH II)

In addition to the certifications and classroom work, there are also a handful of practical skills SAR requires you test for (will be instructed by a certified team member). You will do this once you sign up for the SAR TECH II.

OTHER:

 We have monthly general meetings. They are held on the 2nd Friday of each month and will be announced prior to the meeting date. If we have a vote on something, your voting rights do not vest until nine months after your application has been approved. However, as a team, we always want to hear your point of view.
