What is Search & Rescue?
Search and rescue (SAR) is the organized, coordinated effort to locate, provide aid to, and safely evacuate or rescue individuals who are in distress, lost, injured, or facing imminent danger on land, at sea, or in urban environments. These operations often involve specialized teams, aircraft, or boats, utilizing advanced, technology-driven, or search-dog-aided methods to save lives during natural disasters, accidents, or wilderness emergencies.

About the SWFL K-9 Search Unit
Since 1994, the Southwest Florida K-9 Search Unit has been assisting law enforcement agencies, fire departments, surrounding search & rescue teams, and emergency management services in times of disaster or community need.
We take great pride in what we do and our organization is incredibly fortunate to have dedicated, passionate, and supportive team members, volunteers, and community partnerships. Our team is committed to training regularly in multiple different real-life scenarios to ensure readiness when we are called upon.
The SWFL K-9 Search Unit has a volunteer group that ranges anywhere from elementary to high schoolers and college bound and beyond. Our goal is to help the community learn about the importance and benefits of K-9 Search & Rescue (SAR).
We train handlers and their canines weekly, are involved in community outreach, and strive to develop ourselves through continuing education in all aspects of search and rescue and the possible scenarios we may be faced with in our line of work.
